STEPHANIE- Dog Trainer
We are so happy to introduce Stephanie Hunt, owner and head trainer of Artful Dodger's Dog Training.
Stephanie was born to work with dogs. At the age of 10 months, she said her first word, “dog” while looking to her childhood best friend, Max an English springer spaniel. When she was just 8 years old she set out to train Max to be the best! And after a few short weeks, Max (also at the age of 8) learned to do numerous tricks; including shake a paw, roll over, and to balance a treat on his nose. After that Stephanie was hooked and spent her childhood walking and sitting the local dogs around her neighbourhood.
After working for a few doggy daycares in and around Vancouver and volunteering at the Vancouver SPCA, Stephanie new it was time to take the next step. In 2006, she attended Canada West Canine Centre, the first school for dog trainers and graduated with a Certified Master Dog Trainer diploma. Upon graduation, Stephanie apprenticed under many trainers, learning as much as she could, and attended seminars including Ian Dunbar, Jean Donaldson, and Nicole Wilde. To this day Stephanie believes that the best teachers are the dogs themselves.
Stephanie believes that a dog and their owner should be a team, a team that is built on respect, love, and lots of fun. Her training methods are developed manly on positive reinforcement with limited correction. She likes to create a learning environment that is more positive than negative. She believes that every dog is different, just as every owner is different. A skilled dog trainer has the ability to read a dog’s mental well being by understanding dog psychology, and body language, than adjusting their training to that specific dog and owner team. |
